I tried sending this to your [email protected] email with reference links but it bounced back

Hi Olga,

I’m Owayne a brit living in the Cayman Islands. Friends of ours are starting a female led Director Services company on island called ȁCCARAȁD and asked if I’d pitch for their logo. They liked the pitch but on review last week said that they’d like a logo revision.

(Logo’s have never been my strength). Of the two options I presented they liked the second ones typestyle as it’s in caps but said they’d like it bolder. They have since added a strapline which is - Next Gen Governance. Their issue with the logo’s is the parrot element. They said that their target market will be ȁCalternativeȁD and young - so yes, I can see why my generic take on the parrot isn’t great. I don’t have the skillset to level up.

The issue for me is that on review, the client was drawing from too many sources. I put the presentation with all the facts given at that time and presented a week later. This week the client produced the attached parrot picture on black and is totally besotted with it. She loves the vivid, bold appeal and ȁCgraffitiȁD aesthetic. After a closer look I found the source (it’s a nature photograph from 2011) and explained this. She feels it can be used to ‘inspire’ their logo.

The issue I have is that the original inspiration behind using the parrot at all is that Caymans Green parrot is unique to this island it’s found nowhere else. Why adopt something unique then be bowled over by a generic google find?

I’m working on a wording for the revised logo pitch. It’s in progress:
Association with Cayman’s national bird is very interesting to me. Especially as it’s distinctly found in these islands and not elsewhere. Now this becomes a story. Cara is distinct within the sector, Cara is the definition of Next Gen Governance, there are others in the sector but such performance is only found here. This is your brand.

Because of this, with regard to how the logo is represented I feel we must be sincere and faithful. Cayman’s national bird is green, blue and red/pink. I feel that adding additional coloring not associated with the bird is a dilution of the message. I think it important that whatever Cara is, does, says holds up to scrutiny - even the logo.

As Cayman’s natural treasure is being adopted I suggest we lean into the bird representation by donating a percentage of profit to cayman bird sanctuary. This is your brand, now this is a story - you are more than profit.

Rebrief
With such a great work, what would your take on CARA - Next Gen Governance - be? With a target audience of ‘alternative’ young business people in the UK, Caribbean and in the far east. The colours are Aqua greens, blues and pinks/reds. The client’s looking to have plushies made of the parrot - can it have character without being childish? I don’t want to dismiss the client’s ȁCwantsȁD out of hand - so is it possible to have your take on the parrot bold and vivid sitting large on a black hero web page while at the same time scaling down to sit beside the CARA wording in mono or reversed out? I’m not keen on the paint splashes the client likes on the black background but is it possible to consider a take on that - hence my inclusion of the trad style, taboo sequences illustration.

Finally, the client liked the black background parrots pose, her response to me after I commented on how that picture wasn’t suitable.

Thanks Owy. Ok, noted. My view is we can use this image as inspiration rather than the exact image. I’d like the logo to be the same shape which I think will be great for merch and reminiscent of the RL (Ralph Lauren a polo shirt I had on at our meeting!) horse!

Is this all too crazy?

Kind regards,

Owayne
